What is a Workplace Right?
A workplace right is an employment entitlement and the freedom to exercise and enforce those entitlements. Employees, employers and independent contractors can have workplace rights.
An employer cannot take any adverse action against a person because that person is exercising, or intends to exercise, a workplace right. Generally speaking, adverse action is any conduct that disadvantages another person. Adverse action could include dismissal, but it can also be any kind of negative conduct towards a person (e.g: deciding not to pay a discretionary bonus to an employee).
